Description
Created for the classroom teacher and easy to produce! When do you find a script with a female as the hero? At Dramamommaspeaks, that's where! This engaging teacher-ready resource contains a dramatic play with roles for over 20. It is suitable for students whether studying the country of China, Asia or used in a drama class. Students strengthen their reading (fluency), speaking (diction) and listening skills (restating) while learning to work cooperatively.
Li Chi Slays the Serpent appears like many folk tales of a different time, namely several thousand years ago. What I especially enjoy about it is the fearless heroine. Li Chi takes it upon herself to kill the serpent who descends upon her village every few years to snatch up a young girl to devour. She disobeys her parents after they inform her she is not permitted to go fight the serpent and sneaks out to the mountains where the serpent lives. Using her wits and expert planning, she lures the serpent out with food and ultimately kills him.
Based on the Chinese folk tale by the same name, students will have an opportunity to:
- explore folk tales of the Chinese culture—in particular a girl is the heroine!
- dramatize a folk tale with chanting and ORIGINAL songs created specifically for this piece
- create masks
- and use their imaginations to express emotion through movement
Integrate with your vocal music teacher and present the play together! Your students can sing and accompany the song with drums, xylophone and/or mallet instruments or use the provided sound bytes instead. Note: You will need to email me for the music clips as for some reason they no longer work in the PDF. I'll email the music to you.
This product comes with:
- warm up exercise--sound effects symphony
- procedure/rehearsal schedule
- 7 page script
- teacher's script for post performance assignment
- stage properties, props. and costume list
- original song reminiscent of the Chinese culture
- recordings of the various renditions of the ORIGINAL music so you can pick and choose what you are most comfortable with for your production
- source list with suggestions for masks and Chinese dragon puppet
